Message from the Chair re Social Media

17 Feb 2020 by Michelle Williams

Further to the EIHA’s message regarding the use of social media, we would like to remind all members of Sheffield Ice Hockey Academy of our obligations to ensure all social media posts follow the club rules. Throughout the UK, there has been an increase in the use of social media to abuse players, teams, officials etc. Although in some circumstances it could be seen as ‘banter’, it could also be read offensively by others. We have an obligation to ensure we do everything we can to stamp out this behaviour.

SOCIAL MEDIA (eg. WEBSITE/FACEBOOK/TWITTER/ WHATSAPP/TIK-TOK/SNAPCHAT ETC) Please use the web and social media responsibly. Anyone found to be posting abusive or derogatory material that brings the club in to disrepute will be disciplined.

Anyone making derogatory comments about players, officials or members on Facebook/Twitter or other social media of a personal nature will be reported to the police and legal action considered.

Any unauthorised member who emails/makes comments or writes offensive letters to any organisation the academy has links with will be asked to leave the academy. No member has the right to write offensive comments to other organisations under the academy banner.

If any person receives or knows of abusive messages via social media, please can you bring it to your team manager’s attention as well as the Designated Safeguarding Lead by email to CPO@sheffieldiha.com.

Thank you for your support.

Martin Peters
Chairman
Sheffield Ice Hockey Academy
